Flex Plate Pins 900 1994

Doing the rear main seal on my 940 Turbo. Reading the FAQ's and I find reference to Flex Plate (Flywheel) alignment. The FAQ perfectly outlined the procedure, but what are the two (2) riveted pins designed to do?

I understand the 58 key slots in the ring gear and the 2 that are left blank for the crank sensor.

I just do not understand what possible purpose the 2 riveted pins could be used for on the flex plate. Mine are somewhat bent and I do not know if they should be straightened before putting it all back together?

Thanks Everyone!
