The two pins are for using a Volvo dealer tool. Your car doesn't have the electrical connector or sensor used with the tool. The sensor, if it was present, fits in a tapped hole in the lower right rear of the block. I think the tool was used just on LH 2.2 cars.

The pins can be a source of trouble. I had one come out, and bend the tone ring on a 1994 940T. My car quit running and would not run. That was one of two times that I have been stranded by a Volvo. There may be pictures somewhere on this forum of the damaged tone ring.

I attempted to straighten the tone ring on the drive plate in place, but was not successful. The engine would run, but not well. I removed the transmission and replaced the drive plate.

I would not straighten the pins, as this might weaken the attachment. The pins are a long rivet. If the pins are loose, remove them or braze them in place. I know removing the pins might affect the engine balancing, but the B230 is not well balanced from the factory.
