2 different non-ABS strut tubes (1990 and newer)? 200

I've been following the discussions of which strut inserts were best for our old 240s, noting that some of the newer cars would not accept a Bilstein HD insert because the it would bottom out in the strut tube. I was especially interested as I had installed a set of in our first 1991 car (sedan) some years back (a tight fit, I had to remove the labels, but the gland nuts fully engaged the threads in the strut tubes).

A few days ago I was comparing the numbers on the data plates on our two 1991s and noted that our cars had different codes/markings for non-ABS struts:

1991 244 (updated with the set of Bilstein HDs) data plate reads "46112," where "46" = non-ABS frnt strut, "1" = 19mm frnt bar, "1" = 4-door rear shock/spring, "2" = 19mm rear bar

1991 245 (currently OEM struts/shocks) data plate reads "60321," where "60" = Non-ABS frnt strut, "3" = 21mm frnt bar, "2" = 5-door rear shock/spring, "1" = 16mm rear bar

By way of comparison, our ABS-equipped 1993 244's data plate reads "623C2," where "62" = ABS frnt strut, "3" = 21mm frnt bar, "C" = 12mm rear spring with HD shock, "2" = 19mm rear bar

Maybe this indicates that there were two different non-ABS struts fitted to various 240s--and why the Bilstein HDs fit some non-ABS cars and not others?

Hope this helps!
