Multiple failed crank sensors 200 1992

Hi all,

The victim: 92 240 sedan, LH 2.4

Trouble free the whole time I have owned it. Until, of course, I decided I needed to sell it. Began having a hard to start when warm condition. Eventually tuned into no start at all.

Determined I have no spark from coil. OBD self test came up with no crank sensor signal. Removed the CKP, and the insulation was pretty well decomposed. Ordered a (cheap) crank sensor, installed it, hit the key and it started right up. Went out the next morning- won't start.

Self test again says no crank sensor signal. Checked the harness between CKP and ignition ECU. No short to voltage or ground or open. Harness between Ignition ECU and ECM checks out too. CKP sensor is open. Sensor resistance as I understand should be about 176ohm.

So I order another CKP sensor (Beck Arnley) which looks a lot like the no name sensor I put on it the first time. Anyway, install sensor #2, hit the key and it starts up/runs just fine. Go inside, wash my hands, come back out and, of course, its not running and won't start again.

Check the sensor, and again the sensor coil is open. Haven't done any further testing yet at this point.

I guess my question is:

Are the aftermarket crank sensors simply well known to be crap and I should just suck it up and buy one from Volvo?

Or is there something I'm missing that is mercilessly killing the new sensors as soon as I install them?

Any Ideas would be greatly appreciated.
