Just to chime in here... I have an 83 242 that has done this sort of thing intermittently since it was new off the lot. For years, I have tried to get it to do this at a shop (dealer or otherwise). At one point I replaced the under hood fuse holder assembly for the big fuse with a water tight one from IPD. It sill happened. In the last 2 years I have replaced the main fuel pump with a genuine Bosch unit from IPD. Still this happens now and then. The wife hates it and I am not so keen on it myself. I keep thinking that at some point whatever is broken will finally break down and stay down so I can find/fix this. So far, it has been a very long wait.
