Starter Solenoid Chatters, No Start 93 Volvo 240. Seems like the solenoid is failing as we can get the engine running by striking the solenoid with a stick.

Car is several hundred miles from me so looking for any other ideas before I head off with a new starter. Battery is fine about 6 months old good voltage, alternator working.

Old starter was replaced 9 years ago so I guess thats all you can expect out of the permanent magnet starters.
