Thermostat temp - problem? 700 1991

I don't recall a problem with this on any of my 240's, but on my 740 the temp only goes up to about 1/3, not the middle (for years now). So this winter (NE Ohio) I put a piece of cardboard in front of radiator and it kept in the middle pretty good. So with spring coming up soon (wait! today!), I took out the cardboard. Should I replace my thermostat with a hotter one? If so, which works best for my climate? Thanks.
