Howdy folks!
I've had quite a few Volvo's with LH injection but I've had an '81 with K Jet for the last year. I love it!
This car was well maintained by the previous owner and has needed only basic maintenance.
Last week my partner was driving on the highway and heard a noise/thought she heard a smell. She pulled over, thought things were fine, nothing happened.
After this incident the car idles high all the time.
I did a look in the engine compartment and found that one of my V belts to the alt/fan was missing and the other was twisted. Also the belt from fan to AC was delminating.
Apparently there was some sort of belt catastrophe!
Anyway I'm replacing the belts today, but for the life of me I can't figure out what this incident has to do with my current high idle issue.
So far I've checked to see if any vacuum hoses were off or anything unplugged, didn't see anything obvious.
I only have the Haynes manual which isn't super helpful for the K jets, but apparently I should have a plastic knobbed screw that on the throttle body for idle adjustment, which I can't see anywhere.
Also I don't think I have an IAC, which I've had plenty of history with on LH engines being dirty etc. The 2 hoses from my throttle body lead to a silver cannister mounted above the intake.
As well I've checked to see if the acc cable was hung up or anything keeping the throttle open, seemed fine.
The black throttle micro switch does not seem to be adjusted right either, when I open/shut the throttle it doesn't click (but I can make it click by the switch itself). But how could this have just come out of adjustment randomly?
So I don't know enough about K jets to have an understanding of where to start with this.
Is the belt issue just coincidental to the high idle?
As I mentioned before the car ran/idled fine before the incident. Also it runs fine now when its driving, just the high idle.
Any thoughts/leads etc would be awesome!
Oh yeah so I know the throttle body probably needs cleaned but I'm putting it off right now....it looks awful to access on these K Jets! I also don't feel like a dirty throttle body is the issue here, wouldn't my acceleration be suffering too?
Thanks!
Mark
