Yes, Chuck, I think about what you've written every time I take my '79 k-jet fueled 244 Volvo on a 2000 mile trip. You're not the only one with lousy experience with an aftermarket main pump for k-jet.

I believe my car originally had a -996 Bosch pump in it, but when it died, thankfully only a few miles from home, I discovered the PO had replaced it with an Airtex. 15 years before. I saw what made it break, and knew a Bosch would not have incurred the same fault, but -- no Bosch available. Replaced it with another Airtex. That was 5 years ago.

Four years ago I posted the story showing what happened with the Airtex pump in another thread you were in, so I figure you saw it.

I suppose I should carry a spare, but in some ways I lack common sense. The spare tire is 40 years old.
