If I am replacing a defective stock coil, I gut the old coil to use as a bracket to hold the new coil. The new coils are smaller in diameter and I glue 2 strips of rubber to the sides of the coil leaving a gap on each strip. The rubber strips hold the coil in place and prevents rattling.

If you opt for gutting the coil, take precautions. I am pretty sure there are hazardous materials inside like PCBs, so wear a particle mask and use eye protection.
