dimmer switch woes 200 1982

Car is a 1982 GLT.

When I try to move from dim to bright headlights, the switch doesn't hold in 'bright' position. It will flash the brights but when I let go of the switch, the headlights revert to dim.

I can keep brights on by holding the switch but upon release everything reverts to dim.

Should I suspect the switch or the relay?

I did mess around with the relay by removing the connectors and cleaning and I did try unscrewing the ground and the system worked briefly. But then it reverted to 'snag' status.

One of the connectors looks like it heated up in the past. Plastic is a little distorted.

I usually don't drive at night but with darkness arriving at four thirty in the afternoon now I have had to use the headlights.
