Losing power when my tank is half full 1800

My 1973 1800es is losing power when the tank is about 1/2 to 1/4 full. The engine starts to stall and I feel like it’s probably something in the fuel system. I’m going to clean out the tank and replace the fuel filter, but is there any other things that could be causing this? Also, has anyone had good luck cleaning out their old gas tank? My car has been in Southern California most of the time, so I’m hoping the tank will be okay after some cleaning, but is the interior coating that some radiator shops provide a good idea for the 1800’s gas tank? Thanks!
