buying a new alternator 900 1993

Hello everyone,
I recently purchased a 93 940 wagon and little did I know, the alternator does not work. The previous owner charged the battery before selling it so I was able to make it home and then to the mechanic to be inspected, and that is where the car is. I bought and installed a new battery at the mechanics. I ordered a new alternator to be installed - an ACDELCO 3341969 - and after a week the mechanic told me that it is the wrong alternator. Next I ordered a REMY 14834 alternator. It is currently in the mail. Have I done something wrong? Is the mechanic mistaken? I dont understand why the mechanic cant order the alternator instead of me...The original alternator is a DENSO and I was unable to find one in the local junkyard. Any information regarding replacement alternators on a 93 940 wagon would be greatly appreciated. Have I ordered the wrong alternator again? Both were ordered from rockauto.com. Obviously I am not very knowledgeable about Volvos and I don't have much experience troubleshooting auto repairs.
Sincerely,
"confused and stressed out" Tommy
