Trunk up latch not releasing every time 444-544

I tried to get trunk up latch to release every time (sticks every third lift if I manually move the starwheel on the left hinge when it sticks).
Sprayed 3 point starwheel with WD-40 and exercise it for about 10 minutes, no help.

Is the only cure to remove the trunk hinges and move the starwheel to the other hinge. That should give some new surfaces with little wear to ride on.

Anyone else fixed this problem ?
