Air box thermostat 900 1993

Been struggling for half the day trying to figure out how to remove the faulty thermostat in my 940 non turbo. My 240 was easy compared to this construction. There are two tabs which when pushed in dont free up the thermostat casing for removal. The themostat casing looks as though it should just push out of the air box, but its unmovable. Must be doing something wrong. I manually pulled the flap to the open air posit and put a small screw to hold it in place for now. Does anybody have any experience with gettting into this air box thermostat?
