My 92 240 wagon has just decided to start sounding like a siren. It occurs with and without acceleration. Now, I do need a new power steering rack so I’ve resigned to risk the steering pump failing, just don’t know if the pump could make a sound this loud. Brakes are also bad, about to be replaced. I’m not even positive the sound is coming from the front of the car. It’s a loud siren getting louder upon acceleration and slowly lower upon coasting- without pressing gas at all.
New parts include fuel pump, filter, and relay, mass air flow sensor (yesterday) and full exhaust.
At my wits end with this thing. After sitting a year or so, she doesn’t want to wake up.
