Dear Dave Stevens,

Hope you're well. I'm glad you "dodged a bullet"! Being "on the ball" and paying attention to noises pays-off. Big time!

While they're available, I suggest using Volvo brand heater hoses, which seem to last about 15 years, in a temperate climate (e.g., not the U.S. south and southwest, southeast Asia, central America, North Africa, Australia's outback, etc.). I'd also recommend replace all of the heater hoses: one aged hose section creates a "weak link" in the system.
