92 Volvo 245 Steering shudder at slow speed, near full turn ?

I agree. I too would siphon out the old PS fluid and replace with synthetic. Nothing to lose... I did exactly that with my former 95 855 and it killed a slow rack seal leak. However, do suggest making sure the Mobil 1 synthetic ATF is compatible with a 240's pump and rack before the switch.

I'm a little fuzzy on this so don't hold me to it, but I think the ring you mentioned or maybe it is attachable weighted tape? might come from the factory. Maybe it's missing now? You might want to research this further. Perhaps someone will chime in on this.

Doubt this is the issue, but may be worthwhile checking the steering shaft u-joints to make sure they are not seizing up. That typically causes stiff, unpredictable steering that sometimes doesn't return to center. Don't remember any shuddering when I had that issue with my 240 and 850.

Good luck!
Jim
