Alternator swap 900 1992

The 1992 normally aspirated cars are equipped with an 80amp alternator.

I don't have a 1992 turbo but I do have two 1994 940T. The turbo cars are originally equipped with 100amp alternators. I have run 80amp alternators on one of those cars because it was what I had on the parts shelf. There were no issues with this swap- short or long term. As an aside I will mention that all of our cars have at least the low beam headlights on anytime the car is running.

I would be interested in hearing why a turbo car would require a 100 amp alternator- as in what additional demand do they present?

Randy
