No bottom row ignition lights on start up 900 1992 900 1992

Few weeks ago I posted an issue with my brick. When I turn ignition key to position 2, none of the dash board lights on the bottom of the display are on. Not a single one. Car starts and runs fine...well, for its age...
The other day I had to disconnect the battery for few minutes. Later upon reconnecting, I noticed that my missing dash board lights were all back. I felt like I was on to something. Unfortunately, on the very next restart, lights disappeared again. In other words, I can only get them back if I disconnect the battery. Even then, for one time only. Apparently disconnecting the battery resets something, but what?
