Bring the cylinder head to a machine shop for testing 200 1988

Reserve Magnaflux for the block or other items iron alloy or ferrous steel. The Magna in Magnaflux mean magnetism using fine iron particles.

Though Magnaflux may make products useful for aluminum alloy engine and cylinder head inspection using other products they sell. I'm very out of date. Though I want to replace the head gasket on my li'l red 1990 wagon as coolant goes missing a bit.

Pressure test the light aluminum alloy cylinder head. Yet the machine shop performs other aluminum alloy cylinder head tests an at home straightedge that are accurate.

What are you using for a straight edge, anyhoo? Plastigauge? A long document form ruler?

Contact quality auto machine shops to discern what they charge for inspection. A cylinder head gasket replacement will succeed much better with the slightest of planing of the cylinder head mating surface.

You may have cracks the machine shop can weld if they can (ask for photo images).

Press out and press in new OEM valve guides if valve guide internal surface wear is beyond tolerance.

If valve guides are beyond tolerance, never knurl the factory valve guides if your 1988 240 is a keeper.

Though pressing in and out valve guides is also a risk.

If you plan on removing it after you are certain the cylinder head gasket or other cause, such a a cylinder head fracture, is causing the coolant system to become instantly pressurized on cold start or if you are losing coolant so that the engine is eating it whether or not you encounter the tell tale signs of coolant in the engine oil sump chambers under the oil fill cap and the dip stick tube.

If coolant is being lost into one or more of the combustion chambers a telltale sign is the "steam cleaning" of the spark plugs or, using a small camera, the combustion chamber interior.

You may smell coolant on the steam cleaned spark plug also. I have.

At least you have non-interference engine RWD Volvo. Few more joyous cylinder heads to rebuild and cylinder head gaskets to install.
