overdrive,,,,,,,, running of vehicle vroom versus the volvo glide 200 1993

Going to try and describe the issue as best as possible. We had a mechanic put in new motor and transimssion mounts, transmission fluid, gaskets, waterpump, struts and shocks. He cleaned up lots of little leaks etc. Before we had all this done the car would glide......... not vroom after 40 some miles per hour. Having driven volvo's for years they've always run quietly. Although it seems to be shifting into 4th (overdrive) it vrooms. Not that quiet glide. When you take your foot off the gas and put it back on vroom no glide. Hope this is making sense. Would brining that engine and transmission up to where they should be versus siting on old and broken mounts make that much of a difference. It just doesn't seem like the engine and tranny are quite working together. All I can think of is kick down cable? am I on the right track?
