the old dome(interior) light switch trick 200 1992

You're right. The trouble is right there in the lamp assembly at the switch or the way it makes a ground to the roof. Pull down switch assembly insert small flat screwdriver in little slot on left side of plastic cover lens and push in retainer latch and pull down assembly for inspection. That's where you'll find the issue.

Side note: You young folks have quite an advantage if you can follow the electrical diagrams in a Bentley under the light provided by a 240's courtesy lamp!
