the old retracting seat belt trick 92 245

hi sages- wonder how many of you have been up against and successfully fixed this conundrum. left front seat belt(obviously gets the most use and wear) retracts on its own shortly after hooked up . after a few minutes on tobacco road, it gets too tight for comfort. have had this same problem with old dodges and fords. always went to a yard and picked up a used replacement. thinking such a tactic will no longer work. two questions if you have remedied this problem:1. how do you access the mechanism without crumbling and shattering the molding hiding it in the door jamb? as you know old volvo plastic is notorious for disintegrating by just looking at it. 2. how do you repair the mechanism?- hope it is something as simple as a couple of sprays of wd 40 on the spring rollup retractor. thanks tons oldduke
