Volvo 240: 'rear brake proportioning valve' #1228738 200

Add this to the ever dwindling OE Volvo parts. This one is still being made by Genuine Classic Parts and is available overseas at the usual VP, Scandix, etc.. locations. The part is still being made by ATE and is solid. And pricey. There are two of these in the back of a 240 and they run about $280 each. They attach to each other via a clip and that clip is no longer being made. And they are heavy - they weight with what seems like 5 pounds each.

After 423K, mine bit the dust. Or I should say, I found one of the spring loaded caps all rusted out in the driveway one morning. These two parts supposedly put added pressure on the front brakes to distribute the braking pressure on a rear wheel drive car. Or something to that effect.

And for Old Duke and those finally thinking about dumping the old 240, the appraisal market for these old cars has suddenly gone up due to supply and demand. After 20 years of having an excise tax evaluation of about $1,000 for my 1990 wagon, my excise tax evaluation recently vaulted this year to $1,750. The ones coming into the junkyards these days are really worn down and beaten up.
