Drive shaft support /bearing question 700

The bearing is not making any noise in my 91 740. I can hold the driveshaft where the bearing is and move the entire shaft around hitting all side with a thud. So I suspect the carrier (donut) has lost its rubber and is no longer affixed to the bearing. I have not removed the assembly to take a look as yet. The question I have is this. Is it possible to remove the broken carrier itself, leaving the bearing in place and slip a new carrier into place?
