Don't know about the B's, but on the midgets, the tranny lives in its own little encased space - part of the chassis. You have to pull engine/tranny together to get the tranny out as it won't come out from the bottom.

Part of this is age and experience. If you're older and have experience pulling the engine/tranny -- spending less time on the floor is a welcomed approach. While it may take a bit longer - being able to do most of the work with things out of the car where you can get at them without lying down and crawling under helps minimize the Tylenol bill. Particularly when the bits you have to deal with while lying down and crawling are big and heavy.
