oil pressure sender switch 900

Dear jaydee,

Hope you're well. The Volvo Pocket data booklet - Cars (700,850,900) 1991-1996 shows the following oil pressure values:

RPM PSI
900 14.5
2000 36.3
3000 43.5

From these data I'd infer that the oil pressure warning light will come on when pressure is below 14.5 PSI.

On a non-turbo model, at 3,000 RPM, the indicated speed is about 70 miles/hour. If the oil warning light then comes on, shut-down the engine as soon as it is safe to do so.

Every second that the engine runs without sufficient oil brings closer bearing failure. So, do not try to "make it home" or to a nearby service station. The cost of a tow is a fraction of the cost of an engine re-build. For cars now at least 25 years old, finding the parts for a re-build could be a challenge.

Hope this helps.

Yours faithfully,

Spook
