Erratic fuel gauge on 89 740 gl wagon 700

Recent development on this old but durable Volvo: fuel gauge stuck at just less than half full except when left turn signal is turned on.....then gauge bounces back and forth in sync with blinker rhythm. Blinker works front and back but blinker dash light not very bright compared to right blinker light. Also, left blinker dash light appears slightly illuminated all the time. Right blinker works normally.
