Low suction line nut at compressor

Hello,
I spent hours trying to remove the 26mm(?)AC line nut at the compressor. The nut would only turn one half turn and then stop. I have heard that the nipple on the compressor can crack off. I only have a 12' adjustable to work with. It is too long and the space is too tight to use it. Am I correct about the size, 26mm? I replace this hose once. I don't know how I ever got it off that time. It is a bear to get it to turn. Once I finally broke it loose, I figured that I was home free. Until I found it to be VERY hard to turn. A crows foot would work I think. Thanks Any suggestions are appreciated.
