B230FT IGNTION TIMING RETARDS THEN ADVANCES IN NEUTRAL -IS THIS NORMAL ? 700

Hello everyone,
my sons 89' 740 turbo seems a little sluggish of idle then runs like a champ once you get moving , I did all the usual checks I could think of , one thing I did notice when I was checking the timing with my timing light I could see the the base setting of 12 degrees goes to a retarded figure of about 5-10 degrees then once the engine has recovered then the timing advances ahead . I feel that the initial retarded ignition timing is what is causing some lag during take off , this ignition system does not have a map sensor so I am assuming that the timing is mapped by rpm , knock sensor , maf sensor , engine coolant sensor and throttle butterfly micro switch , anyone experience the same issue or is this totally normal ignition timing mapping ? Also if I slowly open the throttle the timing moves ahead without much or no retarded ignition timing
Thanks in Advance !
