the 'instant' plastic panel connector woes 200 1982

Okay. This is hour two of my struggle to connect the driver's side kick panel to the front console of this 1982 GLT. It is held in place by a Phillips screw at the top and what I call an 'instant' connector at the bottom.

Both of these connectors are easily accessible and should be a snap to use to install the side console panel, in my case the driver's side.

But I cannot get the plastic connector to turn the full forty-five degrees so that its crack is totally horizontal. I can only get it to about a forty-five degree angel---and it has popped out on me twice. I will try to get a picture of this little beast up but I can describe it as camel coloured with an imitation leather finish on its head and a long crack into which you can insert a screw driver.

Because it is plastic and almost forty years old I have to be gentle with it. I do not want to break it!

But I am growing to hate it:)

Bob
