I recommend you check the resistance of the ECT (engine coolant temperature sensor) from the terminals in the ECU connector. Remove the connector from the ECU, and use your ohm meter between terminal 13 and ground. There is a chart in the 700/900 FAQ which gives resistance to temperature.
