Interior--Arm Rest on '68 1800S 1800

I need to make all new interior for my '68 1800S. I have an industrial sewing machine and in the past have made a few sets of seat upholstery, door panels & headliners for 544's & 122's. So I don't think I'll have a problem doing the 1800, except the arm-rest has me somewhat puzzled. The original ones seem to be covered with a thin foam, then a vinyl over the foam. The vinyl does not have the cloth backing like typical upholstery vinyl, which makes me suspect that a heat/and vacuum process might have been used to make it conform to the shape & compound curves of the hard plastic inner piece. If anyone has any experience doing this or can offer any helpful ideas I'd be grateful.
