central rear brake stop light broken

I have had a look through some of the old posts on this but I am not sure if they address my particular problem. The two pictures I have uploaded are an attempt to show what seems to have happened.

The base of the light has been broken and I would like to find a way to bring it out of the car and fix it. I suspect Rover might have got loose back there when my nephew was a temporary owner.

I THINK this base is held on by screws emanating from the bottom and that if I remove the trunk interior light I could access them. Is this true? I would rather not attempt to remove the trunk interior light for no good reason because it is probably fairly brittle plastic.

Trying to access screws, etc., from the top brings the rear windscreen into play and I have not been able to see anything yet. But I just got into this issue about an hour ago.

The picture show the light module separated from the base. Sorry about it being a little dark.
