Hoping to use a 240 alternator on 7/9 series cars

I have a nearly new alternator from a later 240. I only have 7/940 cars at this point.

When I compare the two alternators the mounting points on the cases are the same. However the width of one of the brackets on the 240 alternator is wider than the one on the 940 alternator (shown in image). That would result in the tensioning device on the 940 alternator being back about a half inch when it is transferred to the 240 alternator, but I think I can fabricate a spacer and just use a longer bolt at the base of the tensioner.

The pulley on the 240 alternator is made for a belt that is a bit narrower than what is used on the 940. That would result in the belt riding a little high in the pulley (about 1/16”)

There isn’t a label of any type on the 240 alternator.

The questions are:

Have any of you ever done a swap like this?

What is your best guess on the output of that 240 alternator?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this proposed hack,

Randy
