1990 240 Speedometer Help 200

I am in need of some help. The speedometer in my 1990 240 Wagon (k9800 cluster) finally went kaput. I had an extra instrument cluster from a sedan (k10042) and I swapped speedometers from the two, keeping my original odometer and mileage. While removing the needle on the cluster (k9800) that goes back into the car, I broke it. Since the needle from the donor cluster (k10042) did not break, I put it onto the k9800 cluster.

The speedometer needle DOES NOT move BUT, the odometer and tripometer are working. Does the original needle from k9800 need to be put back in, or is there something I am doing wrong? I thought about adding a TINY bit of adhesive to the needle, since it came that way from the factory, but before I did, I thought I would reach out and ask for help. I tried pushing it in firmly, but it does not stay. Is it possible that I broke the pin on the end of the needle when I broke the needle itself?
