Loud noise from M46 transmission and drive shaft at low speed 200

I have a 240 1982 with M46 transmission and 320k miles with original transmission. Fluid type F replaced and strainer/filter cleaned every 65k miles more or less.

EVENT

I had to slow down from 60 mph to about 10 mph, shift to 2nd gear, and started accelerating. I heard a violent noise about every 2 second with some effect on the acceleration. I accelerated slowly back to highway speed and have not encountered that problem again after about 200 miles.

I could not understand what was the problem since the U joints and center bearing support are silent and in good shape.

Then later I figured out that maybe the overdrive solonoid was lazy in dis-engaging. The noise every 2 second could match with the od pistons pumping to dis-engage the conical drum, pulsing between od engaged and dis-engaged. Overdrive work normal when stopped, clutch depressed and in 4th gear.

Have brickters encountered problems with M46 overdrive solonoid other than total failure ?
