Any trick to getting the temp sending unit out of B16 head? 444-544 1960

I am slowly disassembling the seized B16 on the barn-find 1960.
Almost ready to pop the head off to get at the stuck pistons, but the temperature gauge sending unit does not want to come out of the little sleeve. The nut came off easily enough, but is there a trick to getting the little tube to slide out? It wiggles slightly side to side, but no movement out of the block. Any ideas?
