Electric power steering conversion? 1800 1970

My better half loves driving the 1800 but at crawling speed or parking, it is a struggle for her to turn the wheel. Has anyone out there attempted or converted their 1800 to electric power steering. I see some expensive kits advertised but I have been told that the junk yards have a lot of Japanese/Korean cars with removable assemblies that will attach to the steering shaft (with modification) for around $40. I don't want to go with a full hydraulic with pump conversion.
