1978 244 steering rack change 200 1978

When you install the new rack, be VERY careful installing the pipe fittings - the threads in my 740 rack were extremely fine and the rack threads are softer than the fitting threads.

If you strip the threads, there are no repair parts for they are a very fine thread.

Also check the pipes for wear in the location where they cross over.

I had one blow, changed the pipe and then the other blew!

The second time I installed the pipes, I cross threaded the fitting in one pipe - an expert on thread stuff told me that he could not find repair parts (although he did find a possible solution in brake parts in England) - I ended up getting a new rack!
