Main pump failure at 307K

I did the main pump on a 1983 volvo 240. The diagnostics were a bit tougher as the pump could be heard running but No fuel. Once I replaced the pump the problem was solved. Wonder why the pump failed I cut it open with a dremel cut off wheel. Turns out there is a plastic coupling connecting the electric motor to the pump. The coupling prongs were chemically aged brittle from the gasoline and had broken the drive connection. Motor running, pump not turning.😎
