Spicer rear end lubricant change 444-544

Guys, I'm changing fluids in my PV and next is the Spicer rear end. Of course there's a fill plug but no drain plug like on the M40 tranny. Is the best (and only way) to get the old stuff out with any residual crud in the bottom, to loosen bolts at the bottom? I lean more toward the drain-out method of fluids, rather than suction out with a gun-tube.
If you loosen those bolts, does that destroy the gasket causing future leaks, and requiring a new gasket and complete removal of the cover?
