Pitman Arm removal 444-544

I am in search of a puller. Off the shelf pullers just don't do the trick, so if you are going to suggest I try AutoZone or Napa or something like that, "been there done that." I really don't want to buy one that I'm fairly certain it will work for $100, but I am will to pay someone here in on Brickboard to rent it, (if it works) then I will return it. The issue seems to be with the "toe" piece that fits between the top of the arm and the steering box. I only have maybe 1/4" of gap. Other pullers seem to be closer to 3/8 or larger.
I was able to remove it about a month ago, put it all back together without checking to see how my steering wheel lined up, and wouldn't you know it, I was off by 1 spline, but the steering wheel magnified my mistake by about 10 degrees. So the second time around I'm sure the Pitman arm is just a tad tighter and thus, less clearance. Any advice would be appreciated.
