you cna obtain a range of quality through rockauto

for example ( but check your model, year etc)

i'd stick with bosche. those made in china pumps are prone to failure but yes you can get cheap ones. you'll see the weight difference if you compare side by side. I would not go changing how the tank is plumbed or things like that. I'd also do the prepump, the strainer which includes the fuel level sensor and the screen ( the screens turn to garbage and fall apart) also the filter by the main pump..

some of those connections can be tight and hard to undo so use the right wrenches, be patient.

I put a cheap one in my van and it rattles. I have a spare ready...

if prepump is bad you may see issues ocurr when you go under 1/2 tank, if tank is full and prepunp is dead it may still run. If main pump is dead it wont start.

I'd wire a tiny low wattage power indicator bulb with the main pump , in parallel. If lamp is lit my pump has power it just aids in troubleshooting a roadside failure.

If you change the pump, especially the one in the tank, I'd siphon all the gas you can get out out first. piece of small line and siphon it. Be careful with that open gas, it burns really really really well. you might want to fish out any stray plastic bits from he fuel filter plastic screen, in the tank, because of it falling apart.

you can get a cheap pump, it will work. when they fail it isn't really worth the savings. You be the judge of all that.
