Hope you're well and stay so. I presume you refer to the in-tank send-unit.
With the wide black rubber fuel filler hose removed, insert the send unit into the opening, with the barrel pointing towards the 10 o'clock position of the fuel tank's opening. Put a mark - with white-out - on the top of the send unit, at the 10 o'clock position.
Then, slowly turn the top of the send unit counter-clockwise, keeping the side of the send unit with the white mark angled upwards. Your goal is to have the send unit's barrel swing over the anti-slosh baffle mounted to the fuel tank's floor.
Once the send unit's barrel has cleared the anti-slosh baffle, continue turning the top of the send unit, until the white mark is at the six o'clock position. The bottom end of the send unit's barrel will then point straight towards the fuel tank's floor and be parallel with the fuel tank's rear-facing wall.
Make sure that the send unit's thin black rubber gasket is seated in the fuel tank's opening. When it is so, gently press the send unit's top into the opening, taking care not to displace the send unit's thin black rubber gasket. It is OK to lubricate the gasket with a small amount of petroleum jelly, to ease insertion of the send unit's top into the gasketed fuel tank opening.
Once the send unit is fully seated in the opening, take the black ribber plastic locking ring and emplace it. Hand tighten 'til snug and then tighten one-eighth of a turn. You may use a very large metal hose clamp to reinforce the plastic ring. Once the hose clamp is in place, tighten until snug and no more.
You may then replace all of the hoses to the fuel tank send unit.
