244 '81 steering horns buttons not 'pushing' enough 200 1981

15 or more years ago my dad had to repair horns buttons because they didn't "push" anymore enough to activate horns.
I Remember we put somewhat thickness items under the buttons to make them nearest ti the buttons itself.
Now Is time to check them again... Of I Press hard on the exact point they work, orherwise not.not the best way to operate when in traffic.
but I don't Remember how to remove the buttons on the wheel, id there are screws or other stuff.

There Is some guides of reference about?
Is that a common problem?
