If the seller didn't offer to show you maintenance receipts the car's condition is unknown. They may have just waited till things break to repair them. Your best choice it to find a mechanic who currently works on 240's or did. Consider paying him for a couple hours to check, run tests, and test drive the car. He will know what to look for and you will have the results to negotiate a good price.

You could also ask this member, Dave Barton, what to check. He posts his repairs and advice on late models regularly. He also has a couple of websites dedicated to 240's.
