there is no regular maint for any rack, ps or manual. only during rebuild any thing gets lube. 1161001 is the grease used on the rack teeth and internals.

it may be the ujoint at the bottom of the column at the rack where the problem is. it can only be replaced, but both the early and late joints have been nla for years. if you can look for used, your stuck with 75-78 with the 14mm shaft. the 79-up racks have a 19mm shaft.
