sounds like a 747 200 1989

Yesterday my 175k 245 started making a noise like a 747 coming in for a landing. It started at 40mph and got higher pitched as the speed went up, but no one-to-one correlation. Put trans (AW70)in neutral and let engine idle, no change. Does not change in relation to throttle opening. Goes away as you slow to a stop, BUT if you don't stop (as when entering a parking lot) the noise stays, but now sounds as if it IS the trans, whining very loudly on go or whoa and changing note as it changes gear. But if you stop, the noise goes away until you hit about 35-40 and then here we go again. AAAAAAHHHH!! This came on suddenly, just yesterday morning, no vibration, no shift problems, but a screech so loud people turn around on the sidewalk to see where the airplane is!! Sorry for the long post, but am I in for a tranny??
